BBL FAQ

Conveniently located to serve San Diego and La Jolla

This article answers most BBL FAQs to help patients make a well-informed decision when it comes to butt augmentation. Brazilian butt lift helps patients achieve shapely buttocks that are well-proportioned to the rest of the body. The information provided here serves as a guide. A consultation with Dr. Mark Mofid will offer more specific answers.

Q: What is the Difference Between BBL and Butt Augmentation?

A: Butt augmentation procedures involve implants for gluteal enhancement. BBL, on the other hand, uses your own fat to change the size and shape of your backside. Fat will be harvested from other parts of your body and then injected into your buttocks. The minimally invasive procedure eliminates displacement or leakage complications that may occur with implants.

Q: What Kind of Anesthesia Is Used?

A: For patient comfort, general anesthesia will be administered. You will be asleep throughout the whole procedure.

Q: How Long Does the Procedure Last?

A: Due to the meticulous liposuction during the procedure, a BBL procedure can last between 5 to 8 hours. The duration of the process varies from patient to patient depending on the complexity of the procedure.

Q: Will There Be Scars?

A: BBL only involves liposuction and fat transfer which uses tiny needles, so large incisions are not necessary. The incisions will fade over time, making the scars less visible.

Q: Where Can Fat Be Harvested From?

A: Fat is usually harvested from the thighs, abdomen, lower back, waist, and thighs.

Q: Will I Lose Weight After My BBL Procedure?

A: Brazilian butt lift is not a weight loss procedure as the suctioned fat tissue will only be transferred and not totally removed from the body.

Q: When Can I Sit After My BBL Procedure?

A: To avoid putting pressure on the treated areas, you will be instructed to limit your sitting time for the next several weeks. You may be able to resume your usual sitting activity after eight weeks.

Q: Are the Results of BBL Fat Transfer Permanent?

A: The results of a Brazilian butt lift will last for many years. About 30% of the transferred fat will not survive the transplantation process but the remaining will last indefinitely depending on your body’s metabolic process. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help prolong the results of your Brazilian butt lift.

Q: When Can I See the Final Results of BBL?

A: You will notice the results of the procedure immediately. Allow up to several months for the transferred adipose tissue to settle. The final results can be observed after six months.

Q: When Can I Resume Work and Exercise?

A: You may be able to get back to work after a week or two. It is recommended you take two weeks off from work. If necessary, you may use a BBL pillow and get back to work after a week. You may resume light exercises in four weeks and partake in sports activities in eight weeks with Dr. Mofid’s approval.
